Spiritual Reflection ~ Contemplation

Sometimes in life, we need someone to help reflect the movement of God in our lives. Or maybe our own movement toward God. Spiritual Reflection is a form of companioning another on their spiritual journey with God. It is about holding the space for deeper listening, for one’s own interior guidance led by the Spirit of God to reveal itself in the ordinary and not-so-ordinary experiences of daily life. We come together for each session to allow whatever is occurring in your own journey to bring forth the messages that may be speaking to you in order to deepen and develop your personal relationship with God, and with yourself. Or perhaps revealing places where you are experiencing an absence of this.

Eliot Hanuman Tigerlily

Gentle Yoga

Eliot Hanuman Tigerlily has been teaching yoga since 1999. He trained with Master yoga studying Svaroopa Yoga and the teachings of Swami Nirmalananda Saraswati for many years. More recently training with Kaya Mindlin in SRY or Supreme Release Yoga.  The focus of these classes is to release the deep core tensions within the body. This decompresses the spine and opens up the flow of energy along the spine and throughout the whole body. Utilizing traditional poses along with various props, Eliot will help you find the alignment and support that will help you get a deep release in the core of your body. This allows you to soften into the alignment instead of tightening to hold the alignment. The weight of the body then leans into the bones for support which increases bone density. There is a focus on stabilizing the hip and shoulder joints to prevent over stretching of the ligaments and connective tissue, especially in extra stretchy people with hypermobile joints. This helps get the release to go deep into the core of the body rather than stretching out the joints. When the deep core tension is released the legs and arms realign, relieving ankle, knee and hip pain as well as wrist, elbow and shoulder pain. One of the keys to this practice is awareness in the body and within oneself. It encourages students to drop into the deeper experiences yoga can offer and is a great practice for supporting meditation and other spiritual practices.

Joy Mentgen, LMT

Massage Therapist

Touch of Joy Massage Joy Mentgen, LMT OR license # 14268 I was exposed to massage and chiropractic care after an auto accident as a teenager.  This began my interest in massage therapy. I attended Ashland Institute of Massage in 2006.  I was trained in Swedish massage, Neuromuscular therapy, clinical massage, Myofascial release, Shiatsu and Cranial Sacral therapy.  I integrate these techniques to create a personalized treatment for each client based on their needs. I also use therapy cups in treatments when appropriate. I have been trained in therapy cups from a western medicine and Chinese medicine prospective. I practiced massage full time for 13 years in LaGrande and Prairie City Oregon. My experience has shown me that given the right tools and environment our bodies can restore balance, heal injuries, relieve chronic pain, resolve posture and movement patterns that cause pain. My treatments have a focus on relaxing the nervous system as all healing takes place when our nervous system is in a relaxed state.  In 2023 I moved to Newport Oregon. I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of the Fire Rock Ocean Sky Healing Arts center and offer massage therapy in my new community.

Megan Robertson

PT DBT Physical Therapist

Rekindling Awareness Dr. Megan Robertson received her doctorate in physical therapy from Chicago’s Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine. She has been exploring movement since before college years through her yoga practice and competitive swimming. While studying biology at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, she completed yoga teacher training and began to teach classes. Her interest in the science of movement and the human body only increased over time, and she returned to school to gain deeper knowledge and skills to treat movement dysfunctions and orthopedic injuries. During physical therapy school she began to specialize in pelvic health physical therapy by taking post-graduate classes and participating in an intensive pelvic floor mentorship program. She treats male and female pelvic floor issues alongside orthopedic and neurological injuries. I see my connection to the Natural World deeply and I spend as much time connecting with Nature as possible (and by Nature, I mean both my own Nature and that of Mother Nature). I use Nature as an inspiration for my entire life including the way I help people who come to me. My skill set is to listen not only to people's words, but to people's bodies and help guide them back to their authenticity. My background is as a pelvic floor physical therapist. I've taken classes through Herman and Wallace, the APTA Pelvic Health group, and the Institute of Physical Art. After realizing fully that orthopedic presenting issues are are often a symptom of a deeper issue, I began taking classes through IAHP's Barral institute and Upledger Institute as well as through Compassionate Inquiry (which is a program based in Dr. Gabor Mate's work on the connection between chronic health issues and negative underlying beliefs about one's self and repressed emotions). My work is also informed by the NOI group's research on chronic (persistent) pain and the work of Dr. Darcia Narvaez, who's research into childhood needs is informed by indigenous cultures.  I help people deeply reconnect and relax into their true nature - that of personal power, love, generosity, and compassion.

James "David" Hall

Crystal Light Bed Steward

James "David" Hall first became aware of the transformational benefits of crystal light treatment during his own personal spiritual journey. He was guided to purchase and steward such a treatment and make it available to as many people as possible. A crystal light bed (also known as a crystal chakra bed) is an alternative healing therapy that uses colored lights beamed through seven quartz crystals to balance the body's chakras and energy fields. Sessions typically last between 20 and 50 minutes, during which clients lie fully clothed under a suspended apparatus. How It Works: Suspended Crystals: Seven Vogel-cut quartz crystals are aligned along the body, corresponding to the seven chakras. Chromotherapy: Colored lights pass through the crystals, emitting specific frequencies meant to unblock and revitalize energy centers. Sound Healing: Sessions often incorporate relaxing or binaural beat music to promote deep relaxation. Vibrational Alignment: Practitioners believe the crystals match and elevate the body's natural vibrational frequency.

Rena Ekmanis

Artist, Teacher

I am Rena Ekmanis, a multi-media artist and illustrator living on the majestic Oregon Coast. My art expresses my love and fascination with the natural wonders of our magnificent earth. A majority of my work is about the ocean and marine life, especially endangered species. I also incorporate birds, plants and landscape elements into my work. I create art that seeks to bring awareness to the importance of protecting wildlife habitats and natural environments. Through creating nature art I deeply study and feel more connected to the subjects. Hopefully my work helps the viewer to feel a stronger connection and love of nature. I am grateful to have lived on the Big Island of Hawaii for 17 years before moving to Oregon. There I spent as much time as possible swimming and scuba diving, marveling at the fantastic and wonderful marine life and coral reefs. I have the fondest memories of swimming with wild spinner dolphins often in the clear turquoise waters. Traveling to and exploring different countries has enriched my life and work. I work in a variety of mediums including acrylics, watercolors, clay, wood and digital artwork combinations. A new art form I am very excited about is mosaics made with micro plastic marine debris. I earned a BFA in Drawing from California College of the Arts and a graduate certificate in Science Illustration from California State University at Monterey Bay.

Megan Robertson

Rena Ekmanis

Nature Artist, Teacher

Spiritual Jeweler, Beadwork

During the spring of 2022 an inspiration was given for a ‘Sister Trip’ to have four bracelets made to commemorate the occasion. After researching different items online, I was inspired to combine 3 different styles as well as a heart-felt message embedded within using beading. It was a hit and I then began making gifts for family and friends. However, the real impetus for the creation of Dots & Prayers as a business came at the end of that year as an inspiration from God to help heal through not only a dark winter but a ‘dark night’. Focusing on the impact of the healing each of the messages contained, as well as the flow of Joy, Creativity, and Inspiration from the Spirit of God within, Dots & Prayers was born.

Artistic Functional Pottery

"My main inspiration rests with nature. I stand in awe of the natural beauty that surrounds us in this state and notably here on the coast, and love bringing my surroundings into my work. Working with clay is mainly about how it makes me feel, like a saner human being." My journey with clay began in 1994 when I was first exposed to the medium through an elective at North Salem High School taught by Stu Chalupsky. My connection to the clay was immediate. I took every class I could and then began some independent study. Mr. Chalupsky remains in my life today as a mentor and a friend. Beyond the satisfaction that comes with having success with pieces that make it through all the stages of bringing ceramics to fruition, I found immense peace during the creating process. It is a feeling that I have been drawn to ever since. I have always been able to sit down with clay and start creating without hesitation. Whether I have a project in mind or not, I have confidence that it will come to me as soon as I put my hands on the clay.

Donna and Gary Claggett

Pottery and Clay Arts

Donna and Gary Claggett are clay artists. They have been producing professional pottery for over 40 years. Each has their own unique style and preferences for the works of art that they like to create. Their current passions are for Raku and Sagger Ceramic Firing processes. The term “Raku” means contentment, enjoyment, and pleasure. Raku describes a process for firing pottery that was originally developed about 500 years ago in Japan. American Raku differs from the traditional process in a couple of ways which make a dramatic difference in the appearance. The first difference is that when the hot ware is removed from the kiln it is placed in a reduction chamber, this usually is a trash can filled with leaves or shredded newspaper. The second difference is that instead of air cooling, the ware is quenched in water. Glazes containing metal oxides such as copper carbonate and red iron oxide create metallic lusters on the surface. The effects produced are quite variable, unpredictable, and often quite beautiful. Saggar fired pottery is coated several times with terra sigillata and prepared in the same manner as the horsehair Raku ware. The ware is then bisque fired and cooled. Saggars are clay containers that pottery is placed inside of during firing. They were originally used to protect the glaze surface during the firing process. Saggars are infrequently used these days for that purpose. Our saggars are done a little differently and are only used once. Each piece is placed in a paper bag and surrounded with combustibles such as seaweed, straw, fruit peels, sawdust, etc.

Ceramics

I had put off using the artistic side of my brain and pursued a path in science and healthcare. While teaching at a community college, I wandered into a ceramics classroom. I was immediately overtaken by the endless possibilities and freedom to explore and express my artistic side. Ever since that cataclysmic day, I have evolved from creating pots from earthenware to functional stoneware to functional yet decorative porcelain. Since relocating to Oregon in June of 2009, I have directed my focus on crystalline glazes in a high-fire electric kiln and Sgraffito technique in high-fire gas and Soda kilns. The more I learn, the more I realized that working in clay combined science and art and I found myself right where I wanted to be. My forms are created on and off the potter’s wheel using porcelain clay. My glazes are all hand mixed. The intricate and meticulous nature that is involved in measuring and mixing my crystalline glazes as well as the mystery surrounding the determination of the appropriate firing schedule, appeals to my science-based education. Sometimes I feel like I am a mad scientist toiling in my lab, mixing up various chemicals to form the ultimate glaze and then “throwing the switch” to see what “life form” (crystals) will emerge from my kiln. Crystalline glazes can be a time consuming endeavor so to balance out the more intricate and meticulous nature of crystalline glaze work, I also decorate pots using the Sgraffito (to scratch) method to create whimsical images for my “Art for the Table” utilitarian daily ware. My food safe pottery are high-fired making them durable enough to be placed in the dishwasher, microwave and oven.

Just Milo

Copper - Metal - Wood Sculptor and Artist
Just Milo Art

I am a self-taught mixed-media artist living in Portland, Oregon. Since retiring from a fulfilling career as a job counselor I have pursued a personal goal of expressing my deep, spiritual connection with the natural world through a collection of wall hangings based on three broad themes: Nature, Spirit, and Humanity. Simply put, I draw inspiration from my personal interactions with nature and people. Like all of us, I have a need to understand my place in the world, and I have found art is my path to this understanding, although it feels like I still have a long way to go! I use wood panels as a canvas upon which I affix hand-cut pieces of copper to create both realistic and abstract images that range in size from large (5'x5') to small (12"x12") pieces. Through the careful manipulation and arrangement of these materials I can create powerful contrasts between the light-absorbing qualities of burnt wood and the light-reflecting qualities of copper. In some cases, I alter copper physically by hammering and using natural patinas to create a palette of irregularly shaded layers of reflection. I also employ the ancient Japanese technique of wood burning (shou sugi ban - yakisugi) to alter the texture and appearance of both wood panels and frames. Each work is hand-made: lovingly shaped, gently sanded and finely polished by the paws of a man who has a sincere reverence for nature, people, and the natural world. A large part of my personal journey includes aligning myself with people and organizations such as Fire Rock Ocean Sky Healing Arts Center. I feel privileged and honored to be a part of this special project.

Woodworkers, Charcuterie/cutting boards & tables
RBR Woodworks

Since retiring in 2020, we’ve been pouring our energy into creating handcrafted wood products—a passion project that quickly turned into something more. As former college athletes and high school coaches, we’ve always thrived on teamwork and creativity. Once we retired, Mother Nature had other plans for us, and we discovered a shared love for working with wood. It all started with a study table for our daughter. Many tables later, we found ourselves truly enjoying the process of designing custom pieces—whether it’s a one-of-a-kind project for a client or crafting occasional tables from beautiful slabs of wood we’ve found ourselves. Today, we focus on making custom charcuterie boards, end tables, and coffee tables. Our goal is to highlight the natural beauty of the wood through thoughtful design and quality finishes. We love creating pieces that don’t just sit on display—they’re meant to be used, lived with, and appreciated as useful art.

Senya

Natural Fiber Art, Wet Wool Art

Natural fiber artist, Senya, dwells within the bustling convergence of coastal wetland and dense coniferous forest as part of the living community belonging to the Beaver Creek watershed. This is where she tends and harvests the many plants that support her creative outpourings. Born and raised as part of these lands, she is devoted to deepening relationship with the many people, plants, and fellow creatures of which her local community is composed of. One of her approaches to building connection is through co-creating with the living world, such as weaving, twining, or plying materials from local plants to create clothing, baskets, tools, or toys. She also enjoys learning how to work with the many gifts offered by the plants to create nourishing foods and vital medicines. Her artwork extends to working with animal fiber, resulting in functional and beautiful pieces of wet-felted and woven art made from local wool. These creations are only possible with the combined gifts and efforts of sheep, their caregivers, the lands that support their lives, and the creative energy that moves through the artist. Together in relationship, there is co-creation. Each felted piece holds a story of place, and this story lives on, becoming woven into the larger tapestry of community, as they find their way to new homes. While on her journey toward living interdependently, Senya holds a vision of building a more resilient community through helping to weave networks of care and reciprocity as well as regenerating the commons. She envisions a community that holds well-being and connection as central values, where we each contribute in ways that align with our gifts, needs, and rhythms.

Nephrite Jade Art

Even as a four-year-old, I was discovering, operating and creating Natural beauty into useful tools. Picking up bits of stones, bones, feathers, metal & leather scraps---left over from Grampa, wood scraps from Dad, my art and I grew. Painting the mysterious treasure cave buried in the side of the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, to the Woody Cars on the beaches of Oregon, I experimented making dyes and paints from cactus and leaves to seaweed, brushes and mushrooms. As my life churned, combined with voyaging through the seas of the Arctic and Antarctic aboard the Polar Sea, I embraced the magic structures and inspiration of Light on Glass—I could “See Inside.” This discovery dove me headlong into the Healing Powers of my Art. Upon landing… I stumbled upon my lifetime Medium—Nephrite Jade, Clay Babies and Glass, I grew, healed, and found myself reflecting in the deep carved pools of the Nephrite stone, positive, intense light spectrums and variances of Green Light Healing Powers. Thank you for sharing my adventure and discovery of Healing with you-- through the powers of Nephrite Jade Art.
