Forest by the Ocean

Perhaps some places exist not only as places to be, but as places that help us become ready for what comes next.

Threshold or Destination?
A second question has emerged through repeated visits.
The forest does not immediately reveal itself. It softens sound. It narrows sightlines. It filters light. Movement naturally slows within the space.
The nearby ocean can be heard but is often hidden from view.
This raises the question of whether the forest functions primarily as a destination or as a threshold.
Rather than drawing attention to itself, the forest seems to prepare attention. The experience is less one of arrival and more one of transition.
The forest remains remarkably quiet. Signs of life and life itself is evident everywhere, but there are no sounds of life in this coastal forest...simply the sounds of the ocean crashing nearby. Perhaps this could feel eerie if there was a coastal fog and a moon peaking through clouds and a howling wind from the ocean. But on this day it feels remarkably like a cocoon, a safe space that wraps around you almost in an embrace. A quiet place to stop, rest, reflect. Perhaps heal or prepare?
How is a place of transition similar to transition phases in other living systems?
Places and spaces that invite stopping, resting, being held or embraced in safety are unique it seems and serve some important functions. Worth exploring more.
Perhaps some places exist not only as places to be, but as places that help us become ready for what comes next.
